The Virginia Tech Hokies suspended sophomore linebacker Tavante Beckett indefinitely on Monday. According to the team-released statement, Beckett is suspended from practice, competition and all team-related activities.

The Hokies will not comment any further on Beckett’s situation but this is clearly something that caught the team off-guard.
Beckett was second on the depth chart at mike linebacker and a key member on special teams. As a freshman last fall, he played in all 14 games and had played in both games this season. Beckett, at 5’10”, 225 pounds, was a hard-hitter whose style of play was perfect on special teams.
A standout at Indian River High School in Chesapeake, Beckett was an outstanding two-way player for the Braves, who, as a senior, compiled 131 tackles, 24 for loss, 12 sacks and seven forced fumbles.
