Class: Redshirt Junior
Projected 40 time: 4.5
- Position versatility
- Instinctive athlete
- Football IQ
- Needs to determine what he'll be in the pros
Dion Bailey is one of the better safety prospects in the nation. He's very instinctive and seemingly always around the ball. Bailey's football intelligence is to be lauded as well.
He has the speed and agility to hang with the speedy slot receivers while maintaining proper tackling form on bigger backs and tight ends. The experience at linebacker can only help him learn the more complex NFL playbooks. He was very impressive in his only year at outside linebacker, racking up over 80 tackles and multiple interceptions. As a freshman (playing linebacker), he also put up over 80 tackles and a couple of sacks as well.
However, Bailey will need to determine what he will be at the pro level and stick with it. He seems a natural at the safety position. If the 2013 Las Vegas Bowl was his last game as a Trojan, he couldn't have picked a better finale. Bailey was all over the place, sniffing out multiple screen plays and being a menace to the highly touted David Carr.
NFL Comparison: Sean Taylor, Washington Redskins / Michael Griffin, Tennessee Titans
