With David Akers struggling, the San Francisco 49ers signed former Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys kicker Billy Cundiff on Tuesday, according to league sources.
Akers is having the worst season of his 15-year NFL career. The six-time Pro Bowler has made just 29 of 42 field-goal attempts (69 percent). And while he's 19 of 23 (83 percent) from inside 40 yards and 9 of 19 (47 percent) beyond 40.

The Niners reportedly brought in Justin Medlock, in addition to Cundiff, before deciding on Cundiff.

Just. End. The. Season.

I know Davis Akers has been hurt this season, so that might be contributing to some of his struggles. That's probably why the 49ers have still kept him and didn't release him.
