The Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers are both fighting for playoff positioning. Both teams face off on Sunday in a very critical matchup.
Vikings writers Matt Coles and Ali Siddiqui made their predictions on the game:
Matt Coles (mattjcoles)
Once again, the Minnesota Vikings are up against a tough NFC opponent in Week 14. Having beaten the Falcons, Lions and Rams in the last three weeks, Minnesota now come up against the Carolina Panthers. However, the Vikings will go into this one expecting to win, having won their last eight games, and now sitting in the #1 spot in the NFC.
The Vikings will be without Mike Remmers, who will miss his fifth straight game this week. The offensive tackle has not practiced all week because of a back injury, so Rashod Hill will continue his stay at right tackle for the Vikings. TE David Morgan will also miss out due to a concussion he sustained last weekend in Atlanta, but other than that, Minnesota will be at full strength.
The Panthers sit in the #6 spot in the NFC, holding the final Wild Card spot. They come from the NFC South, arguably the toughest division in football, with three of the four teams having at least eight wins to this point (NO 9-4, CAR 8-4, ATL 8-5). Christian McCaffrey have been wonderful for the Panthers in 2017, and is up there for Rookie of the Year, thanks to both his rushing and receiving calibre.
Carolina come into the game with 21 players who are questionable, but most will be expected to play. TE Bucky Hodges is out for the game, missing out on playing the team who drafted him in April, while Matt Kalil will face the Vikings for the first time since he signed with Carolina.
The Vikings should have the momentum to continue their amazing run of form, and will beat the Panthers. Vikings to win 24-14.
Ali Siddiqui (@asiddiqui15)
The Vikings are riding high at 10-2 and on a eight-game winning streak. They face another good test against the 8-4 Panthers.
The Vikings have won the past two meetings. They have also sacked Cam Newton 12 times and intercepted him four times in those games. Newton may have a good game this time, but the Vikings defense won’t allow him to have a huge game. Case Keenum and the offense should also do enough to win this game.
Prediction: Vikings win 20-14
