On Monday afternoon, the Carolina Panthers swapped out punters–releasing perhaps the best name in football, Swayze Waters, for (admittedly, another pretty solid name) Kasey Redfern. Waters, previously of the Canadian Football League, signed with the team shortly after Super Bowl 50.
Redfern, who is certainly no stranger to the Carolinas, was born in Jamestown, N.C. and attended Wofford College, the Panthers’ training camp home, for four years. The 24-year-old was scooped up by the Jacksonville Jaguars upon entering the league and was recently cut by the San Diego Chargers.
The North Carolina native joins 13-year veteran and another former Charger in Mike Scifres in the team’s punting competition.
