Flashback Friday: Vikings Beat Panthers 31-13 in 2014

The Vikings will be traveling to Carolina to face the defending NFC Champion Carolina Panthers. The Vikings are 2-0 and are coming off a huge win last Sunday against their rivals, the Green Bay Packers.

These teams last faced each other in 2014 at TCF Bank Stadium.

The Vikings won 31-13 and lead the all-time series 7-5. Everson Griffen recorded two sacks and also returned a blocked punt for a 43 yard touchdown. Adam Thielen returned a blocked punt for a 30 yard touchdown. Teddy Bridgewater went 15/21 for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Matt Asiata rushed for 52 yards on 14 carries. Greg Jennings had five receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown.

The Vikings improved to 5-7 with the win and finished the season 7-9 in Mike Zimmer’s first year as the team’s head coach.

2014: Vikings 31 Panthers 13

Teddy Bridgewater went 15/21 for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Matt Asiata rushed for 52 yards on 14 carries. Greg Jennings had five receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown. Everson Griffen and Adam Thielen each returned a blocked punt for a touchdown. Griffen also recorded two sacks.

Cam Newton went 18/35 for 194 yards, one touchdown and one interception and also rushed for 49 yards on nine carries. Jonathan Stewart rushed for 85 yards on 12 carries. Greg Olsen had five receptions for 59 yards. Kelvin Benjamin had five receptions for 56 yards. Luke Kuechly recorded nine tackles and two sacks.

2013: Panthers 35 Vikings 10

Cam Newton went 20/26 for 242 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. DeAngelo Williams rushed for 64 yards on 17 carries. Brandon LaFell had four receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown. Thomas Davis recorded nine tackles and two sacks. Michael Mitchell had two interceptions and a sack.

Matt Cassel went 32/44 for 241 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Adrian Peterson rushed for 62 yards on 10 carries. Kyle Rudolph had nine receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown.

2011: Vikings 24 Panthers 21

Christian Ponder went 18/28 for 236 yards and a touchdown. Adrian Peterson rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries and also had five receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown. Percy Harvin had four receptions for 58 yards and a 10 yard rushing touchdown.

Cam Newton went 22/35 for 290 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for 53 yards on six carries. Steve Smith had seven receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown.

2009: Panthers 26 Vikings 7

Matt Moore went 21/33 for 299 yards and three touchdowns. Jonathan Stewart rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. Steve Smith had nine receptions for 157 yards and a touchdown.

Brett Favre went 17/27 for 224 yards and an interception. Adrian Peterson rushed for 35 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and also had three receptions for 73 yards. Sidney Rice had four receptions for 69 yards. Chad Greenway recorded 10 tackles.

2008: Vikings 20 Panthers 10

Gus Frerotte went 16/28 for 204 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Adrian Peterson rushed for 77 yards on 17 carries. Bernard Berrian had three receptions for 79 yards. Kevin Williams recorded two sacks. Antoine Winfield had a sack fumble and returned it for a 19 yard touchdown. Chad Greenway recorded nine tackles and a sack.

Jake Delhomme went 17/29 for 191 yards. Steve Smith had four receptions for 70 yards. Deangelo Williams had 10 carries for 27 yards.
