Flashback Friday: Vikings Beat Packers 31-17 in 2004 Playoffs
The Minnesota Vikings (7-7) and Green Bay Packers (8-6) are set to face off on Saturday.
The Packers lead the all-time series 59-51-2. These two teams have had very memorable matchups against each other. One of which came in 2004 when they both met in the first round of the playoffs.
Daunte Culpepper went 19/29 for 284 yards and four touchdowns. Randy Moss had four receptions for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Nate Burleson had four receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown. Moe Williams had two receptions for 72 yards, which included a 68 yard touchdown.
Moss also made headline by pretending to moon the crowd after his second touchdown, which later resulted in a $10,000 fine.
"I expect a big game from Randy every single time we go out," teammate Nate Burleson said. "It's hard for him, because everybody gives him a lot of flak about certain things that he does, but really when it comes down to it that's a guy that I know I would rather have than any other receiver in this league." The Vikings defense also had a great game. They intercepted four passes and had two sacks.
For the Packers, Brett Favre 22/33 for 216 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions. Ahman Green rushed for 80 yards on 20 carries. Donald Driver had seven receptions for 78 yards.
After being swept by the Packers in the regular season (both by a score of 34-31), which included a home loss just two weeks earlier, the Vikings got revenge by ending the Packers season. Vikings won 31-17.
"Pretty much everybody said we couldn't do it and we just pulled together," Culpepper said. "We never bought into the negativity." (espn.com)
The Vikings lost the next week to the Philadelphia Eagles 27-14. Moss was dealt to the Oakland Raiders two months later for linebacker Napoleon Harris and the seventh overall pick.
