Injury Update: QB Savage Returns to Practice

As the Texans brace for their rematch with the Patriots on Saturday night, they will be welcoming back some depth to the quarterback position. Tom Savage, who played at QB for the team in the last 3 games of the season, suffered a concussion in the regular season finale. Now, after missing the last 10 days, he has been cleared to return to practice.

Savage originally was put into the starting position for the team after current starter Brock Osweiler struggled to meet expectations. Savage didn’t necessarily light the league on fire, though, as he went 46/73 passing, for 461 yards. He didn’t throw any touchdowns, however, and will return to his backup role for the team.

Also, the Texans will have their Pro Bowl left tackle Duane Brown for Saturday’s game. Brown missed the team’s first matchup with New England with a shoulder injury, and the team subsequently recorded their worst loss of the season, a 27-0 defeat. Heading into the divisional round, the team will gladly take Brown’s contributions in the run game and pass blocking prowess, as the Patriots have had success stopping the run and getting pressure on the quarterback.

The Texans have had success in recent weeks in getting running back Lamar Miller involved, and have been successful in large part to Brown’s presence, along with the improved play of the entire offensive line. With their season on the line, the Texans will need another successful day from the offensive line to advance to the AFC Championship Game.
