The Philadelphia Eagles went into FedEx field to face the Washington Redskins on Sunday and came out with the W. This was a huge NFC East win to kick their season off. The Eagles are now sitting on top of the NFC East, but it’s still early in the season and they face the Kansas City Chiefs next week, who are coming off a huge win against the New England Patriots.
The Eagles passing game on Sunday was superb against the Redskins secondary. Zach Ertz had 8 catches, 93 yards. Nelson Agholor had 6 catches, 86 yards, and 1 touchdown. Carson Wentz had a decent game as well going 26/39, 307 yards, and 2 touchdowns, and just one interception. The run game wasn’t up to par with just 52 yards on the ground in total, but it still got the job done. The defense held them to only 60 yards on the ground and 240 yards in the air. This was a great win but the Eagles have to buckle down and prepare for the Chiefs next week.
The Eagles Swoop In!
The Kansas City Chiefs won big last week on the road Thursday night against the Patriots. The Eagles are looking to knock them off and go 2-0 in the season. If the Eagles want to win they have to cut down on the mental mistakes and not commit any turnovers. On top of that, they must get the running game on point early so that their passing game can open up and really let Carson Wentz shine. Kansas City held Tom Brady to no passing touchdowns, so the running game is going to have to be existent.
The Chiefs are also coming in with their passing game and rushing game being very successful Thursday night. Kareem Hunt, the rookie RB, had 17 carries, 148 yards, and 1 touchdown while on the passing end Alex Smith threw for 4 touchdowns. One of those touchdowns went to Tyreek Hill as he had 7 catches, 133 yards, and 1 touchdown. It just looked like they couldn’t be stopped on the ground or through the air. This means the secondary for the Eagles must be outstanding. The injury to Ronald Darby is a real hit to their secondary and now Jalen Mills will have to step up and fill that number one DB role. The D-Line will have to be able to slow down Kareem Hunt and their backup RB Charcandrick West as he came in the game and immediately scored a touchdown on one carry late in the 4th quarter.
The Eagles are sitting high right now 1-0 but have little time before their matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. The game is on Sunday @ 1 pm, Arrowhead Stadium.
