After his performance in the first preseason game, Deon Lacey may have a shot at making the final roster.
The Miami Dolphins have been struggling this year keeping linebackers healthy. First linebacker Koa Misi still recovering from his neck injury from last year, and then second round pick linebacker Raekwon McMillan tears his ACL in the first preseason game against Atlanta Falcons.
However there is a bright side. During the first preseason game there was a huge play by rookie wide receiver Damore’ea Strongfellow with a 99 yard catch for a touchdown. First time a Dolphins’ player had more than 100 receiving yards in preseason since 1997. But there was other positives as well, such as linebacker Deon Lacey. Lacey was recruited from Canadian Football League. Lacey had five tackles against the Falcons. This tied for the team lead in tackles with rookie cornerback Cordrea Tankersley.
So yes, there have been a few injuries on defense for the Dolphins lately. But looking at the talent that is filling in the gaps, I believe the Dolphins defense will do just fine. After all, look at what Jay “J-Train” Ajayi did last year when Arian Foster decided to retire. Ajayi become the fourth running back in NFL history to have back to back 200 rushing yard games.
