I composed the first draft of this recap after the first quarter of the game and it contained two words. One of them was “UConn” and the other one would’ve gotten my mouth washed out with soap in the 3rd grade.
Louisville did what you simply cannot do against the Huskies and that’s get down by double digits. When Sam Fuehring went to the bench with 2 quick fouls the Huskies went on a tear and outscored the Cards 19-0. The score at the end of the first quarter was a dismal 6-24. However from that point on Louisville outscored the Huskies 52-45. They adjusted to UConn’s length and quickness and started playing smarter. According to Holly Rowe, during a timeout late in the game Coach Walz told the team, “I don’t know whose idea it was to spot the other team 20 points, but it was a bad idea.”
