Live Tampa Bay Buccaneers Draft Analysis
Round 1, Pick #11 (Trade w/CHI)
CB Ryan Smith, North Carolina Central
The cornerback position has been a weak spot for the Bucs these past few seasons and they take Smith, to add alongside Hargreaves in their draft haul, to help repair it. Smith, 5’11”, is a tad undersized but his ball skills and solid fundamentals could earn him a role as the team’s nickel corner sooner rather than later.
Round 5, Pick #148
OT Caleb Benenoch, UCLA
6’5″, 305 pounds and a 4.98 40-yard dash time. Goodness. Benenoch is an above average athlete at the tackle position, but does carry some questions marks concerning his overalls strength. And although he may fit better as a guard at the next level, there’s no doubting the upside of a big man that moves like Caleb can.
Round 6, Pick #183
OLB Devante Bond, Oklahoma
The 6’1″, 235-pounder turned in a nice showing at the combine, finishing third amongst linebackers in the vertical jump (37.5 inches) and fifth in the 3-cone drill (7.07 seconds). Bond is a solid athlete and could contribute on special teams early in his NFL career.
Round 6, Pick #197
FB Dan Vitale, Northwestern
Vitale displayed great versatility over his four-year collegiate career at Northwestern. He’s a plus receiver from the fullback position, having racked up 33 catches for 355 yards and four touchdowns in 2015.
