Earlier in the day, we noted that Jace Billingsley had cleared waivers and was eligible to rejoin the Detroit Lions on their practice squad. The team did Jace one better on Tuesday, signing him to the active 53-man roster instead. To make room for him, the Lions waived Jared Abbrederis.
The move is somewhat surprising considering Abbrederis had clearly been above Billingsley on the depth chart for the entire 2017 season. Abbrederis had made game appearances six times this season, pulling in three catches for 44 yards and three special teams tackles.
Billingsley, on the other hand, made his NFL debut just a couple weeks ago against the Steelers. The following week against the Packers, Billingsley made two special teams tackles on just seven snaps. But the team decided to waive him the next week to make room for Taylor Decker and Corey Robinson.
