Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech

Blake Meek

A big game against Alabama opened many eyes to the talent Fuller has, but he might not even be the best corner in his own family. That doesn’t mean he isn’t one of the best in the nation this year.

Height: 6'0

Weight: 193

40-Time: 4.48

Class: SR

Strengths:

  • Strong against the run and a very disciplined tackler.
  • Has smooth hips and footwork which allow for easy transitions in coverage.
  • Has good ball skills.
  • Has good length and size.
  • Blitzes well.

Weaknesses:

  • Doesn’t have elite speed.
  • Will freelance at times and get caught out of position.
  • Can be overaggressive.

Injury History:

  • Played every game as a sophomore and junior.
  • Had a groin injury causing him to miss 2 games earlier this year.
  • Has surgery on a core muscle. Could miss rest of year.

Notes:

  • Younger brother Kendall is a freshman cornerback for Virginia Tech.
  • Older brothers Vincent and Corey both played at Virginia Tech as well. Vincent was a safety and Corey was a receiver. Corey is on the Detroit Lions practice squad.
  • Coaches 2012 All-ACC honorable mention.

Summary:

Kyle Fuller was a player many thought would be a mid-round draft pick before the 2013 season started and then he opened up a lot of eyes with his game against Alabama.

Fuller comes from a great bloodline with two older brothers that also played college football, one of which is in the NFL right now. He also has a younger brother who plays for Virginia Tech. Fuller doesn’t have elite speed, but he plays with great aggression and instincts for the ball. He likes to play off man so he can jump routes when he reads them. Fuller plays well against the run and doesn’t care to lay a hit on a running back. Fuller has some room to add muscle to his frame if need be.

At times Fuller can be overaggressive and get burnt deep. He also doesn’t have elite speed to cover the speed demons of the world. That being said, he uses his instincts and smooth hips to cover the best of receivers well.

Love that comparison to Winfield. I've been watching Fuller quite a bit this season and I think he's going to have a very solid NFL career. Great scouting report Blake, loved the read. Keep up the great work.

I like Fuller. Solid 2nd rounder. Right now, my rankings would like such:

1. Ifo Ekpre-Olomu

2. Darqueze Dennard

3. Justin Gilbert

4. Loucheiz Purifoy

5. Bradley Roby

I would have Fuller probably right behind them. I think Verrett has been overrated for some time, but a solid cover two corner. Roby is reminding me of Kareem Jackson. Exceptional physical tools, but grabby downfield.
