Matt LaPan's Top 50 - Version 1.0

Matt LaPan

Each draft class needs a top-50 rankings. Here is a look at Matt LaPan's first crack at the top-50.

As the 2014 NFL Draft draws ever closer, it is paramount to set up the top 50 "Big Board". It is also paramount to understand that just because a player ranks in one spot in the top-50 does not necessarily mean he will go in that spot in a mock draft.

Think somebody was left off the list? Is your guy too low while another guy is too high? Let Matt know on Twitter: @Matt_LaPan.

I know this might sound crazy to some but I am just not a Van Noy guy. I think he has a good skill set but Im not sold on him translating his game to the pro's. And I am 100% aware that is what a lot of people point to with Barr, just personal preference I guess.

What of Van Noys won't translate? He is the best blitzer in the draft, good in coverage, good against the run. He is in my top 10 players.

I'd easily take Dee Ford over Van Noy. Ford is far more explosive and loaded with far more potential. IMO Van Noy is a borderline 1st rounder. Not that he's a bad player.

Totally different players. Ford is a 3-4 OLB, Van Noy is a 4-3 OLB and a 3-4 ILB. Van Noy far better in coverage and against the run. All Ford can do is rush the QB. That's it.

That's your opinion. Different players, but you said Van Noy is the best blitzer. I'd take Fords pass rushing ability any day of the week and twice on Sunday over Van Noy.

There is a difference between pass rush ability and blitzer. Ford didn't blitz because he was a DE at Auburn. Not comparing the same things.
