Loston is the most senior of a young and talented LSU secondary. He was appointed as the next leader after the pro departures of standout safeties Eric Reid and Brandon Taylor in consecutive years.

Loston is an explosive and very instinctual athlete when in run support. The closing speed is rather remarkable for a guy his size. He, however has a tendency to go for the home run hit instead of wrapping up properly which exposes him to the mercy of officials for the stricter guidelines on hitting. Also, his aggression can often times force him to overpursue and take himself out of plays completely.

He has struggled a bit in the passing game without the services of Reid in 2013. Only an average player in pass defense. He was repeatedly targeted by teams going over the top, most frequently in the entertaining shootout against Georgia, where his flaws were glaringly exposed. Although an excellent athlete going downhill, Loston doesn't have the hip control nor the backpedal to keep up with more fleet footed receivers. In his defense, he does have the instincts of a corner in terms of ball location skills. Also makes the big plays at the right time, snagging game clinching picks during the Auburn and Texas A&M games in 2013. Possesses a strong, well built frame.

Injury History:

  • Missed all but two games of freshman season with a wrist injury that led to a redshirt.
  • Various ailments have forced him to miss practice and a couple of games otherwise.
Round projection: Middle 2nd to Early 3rd

NFL Comparison: Troy Polamalu, S, Pittsburgh Steelers
