The Dolphins won their first preseason game but lost an important player.
The Miami Dolphins have started their season off with a win against the Atlanta Falcons. Things looked grim early, as the Dolphins got behind early. They were able to come back and win 23-20. Here are some players who stood out.
Damor’ea Stringfellow made a name for himself tonight.
Who could forget that 99 yard touchdown run off of a short pass from David Fales. Stringfellow made a few great catches tonight, but none of them were as good as the touchdown. If he performs well in the next three games, he may find himself on the final roster.
The running game did not fare well tonight.
The Dolphins were not able to get much going in the run game. It is hard to tell whether it is due to the poor offensive line play or the running backs themselves. Which ever is the problem, they need to do better. Kenyan Drake led the team with 21 yards in 5 carries. With Ajayi already sidelined, the backups need to come up big.
A big loss was suffered on the defense.
As many know by now, rookie LB Raekwon McMillan was hurt on his first play on special teams. He left the field and never came back. While several reports say that he tore his ACL and will be out for the season, there has been no official diagnosis. McMillan was supposed to take over linebacking duties from the injured Koa Misi as the starter this season. This is now in jeopardy and the Dolphins will have to adapt to this change. Many have questioned why McMillan was playing on special teams, however many starting linebackers also play on special teams.
Other injuries include safety Walt Aikens and conerback Torry McTyler.
The Dolphins will continue the preseason next Thursday against the Baltimore Ravens.
