If you’ve been paying close attention to the Detroit Lions’ transactions, you knew that going into the week, the team still had one more open roster spot on their 52-man squad. With no additional signings throughout the week to take that spot, you knew the Lions were likely to promote a player from their practice squad before Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
On Saturday, that’s exactly what the Lions did, promoting wide receiver Andy Jones to the active roster.
The move was likely made as a result of Marvin Jones Jr. being out with a knee injury. Though the Lions now have five healthy receivers on the roster—Kenny Golladay, TJ Jones, Bruce Ellington, Brandon Powell and Andy Jones—it’ll be interesting to see which will be active and playing against the Panthers. Golladay and TJ Jones are pretty much guaranteed, but who will be the Lions’ No.
