The Dallas Cowboys have been not only one of the most popular teams in all of the NFL, but in all of sports worldwide. Each year Forbes Magazine puts out their yearly rankings. Last time, the Dallas Cowboys were listed as the most valuable franchise at $4 billion.

In last year’s list they beat out Real Madrid, Barcelona,  New York Yankees and Manchester United. Jerry Jones took a franchise on the bottom of the NFL and turned it into a product known around the world. Everyone knows the star. So would it be all that surprising they would top the list again?

The Cowboys came in at number one posting a value of $4.2 billion, which is a growth of 5% from a year ago. The team has added a new facility in Frisco that included shopping center, Omni hotel and a state of the art fitness facility. The teams in the top five remain the same but the order didn’t. The Yankees jumped to second on this year’s list according to Forbes Magazine.

At one time the Dallas Cowboys were up for sale back in 1984 and now President Donald Trump had an opportunity to make the investment.

It’s a no-win situation for him, because if he wins, well, so what, they’ve won through the years, and if he loses, which seems likely because they’re having troubles, he’ll be known to the world as a loser.” – President Trump on the Dallas Cowboys new owner in 1984.

Instead Trump invested in a team in the United States Football League that folded following their 1985 season. Bum Bright bought the team in 1984 and sold it to Jones in 1988.

Well that loser took the Dallas Cowboys to the pinnacle of the NFL with three Super Bowl Championships and he is now set to join the Hall of Fame. Not bad for a man who once wanted to buy the San Diego Chargers but his father intervened. Jerry Jones took an investment of $140 million and turned it the most premier team in all of sports.

People speak ill of Jerry Jones at every opportunity but as a business man, Jones knows how to turn lead into gold.
