BYU added another piece to its 2019 recruiting class with the commitment of Mesa, Arizona Tight End Carter Wheat. Carter announced the commitment via his twitter account.
Carter is the son of former BYU offensive lineman Warren Wheat, who played for the Cougars from 1985-1988. He was drafted by the LA Rams in the 8th round of the 1989 NFL draft before playing for the Seattle Seahawks for 3 seasons.
Carter received an offer from BYU yesterday and pulled the trigger with a commitment a day later. BYU is the only school that has offered him at this point. He has, however, taken recent visits to in-state schools Arizona and Arizona State.
The 6’4”, 230 pound tight end tallied 14 receptions last season for 263 yards and two touchdowns, according to max preps. Carter also has played linebacker during his high school career, which could be a possibility for him.
