Offensive Player of the Year: Tyrod Taylor

  • Position: Quarterback
  • Passing Yards: 3,035
  • Completion Percentage: 63.7% (242/380)
  • Touchdowns: 20
  • Interceptions: 6
  • Passer Rating: 99.4

“Heading into 2015-16 season, no NFL team had more mystery surrounding the quarterback position than the Buffalo Bills. Tyrod Taylor, a dark horse candidate for the job, won the three-way quarterback competition in preseason by proving to be a true dual-threat option. Taylor helped contribute to the league’s leading rushing attack with 568 yards on the ground, finishing fourth among all QB’s. Even more impressively, Taylor showed tremendous decision making in the pocket as he broke Drew Bledsoe’s team record for most consecutive passes without an interception. The former career backup even earned a spot in the 2016 Pro Bowl in his first year as a starter but most importantly stabilized the quarterback position for the Bills heading into the future.”

Defensive Player of the Year: Stephon Gilmore

  • Position: Cornerback
  • Solo Tackles: 36
  • Interceptions: 3
  • Passes Defended: 18

“The Bills defense did not meet expectations this past season. However, there were individual players who were able to meet and even exceed expectations. The pass rush was minimal and the linebackers underwhelmed, but Stephon Gilmore had an excellent season in the secondary. It is for that Gilmore is the 2015 defensive MVP. Gilmore found himself matched up on the opposing teams’ No. 1 receiving option more often than not, and he did an excellent job slowing down explosive wide outs.  His strong play earned him a contract extension that may come later this offseason. Without Gilmore, rookie Ronald Darby would not have been as impactful as he was and having a true shutdown cornerback is an integral part of any Rex Ryan defense. Gilmore was irreplaceable, which is why he is the Bills defensive MVP.”
