Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Week 8: QB's
In this week's Start 'Em and Sit 'Em, there are some good matchups for some QB's and some that might surprise, but before we get started, lets look at some basics first. 1) This series of Start 'Em Sit 'Em will always feature standard scoring formats, unless otherwise noted, 2) This will be about QB's with good matchups that aren't the Peyton Manning's, Aaron Rodger's, and Drew Bree's of the fantasy football world, and 3) I am always open for suggestions, comments, and questions, so if you ever have any, tweet me @sethAfisherFF. With that being said, lets get under way.
Start no matter what:
1) Peyton Manning and the Broncos are playing a terrible passing defense in Washington. Look for Peyton to score upwards of 25 or more.
2) Drew Brees is coming off a bye and getting Jimmy Graham back, look for him to tear it up this week against a shaky pass defense in Buffalo.
3) Aaron Rodgers is going up against a Minnesota defense that has allowed the 5th most fantasy points to QBs so far this season. Even with Randall Cobb and possibly James Jones out this week, look for Aaron to have a big week.
Start of the Week:
Matthew Stafford vs Dallas
Matthew Stafford plays the defense that has allowed the most fantasy points to QBs so far this season this week. With Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush at his disposal, along with a pass heavy offense attack, look for Matthew Stafford to have a big week. Stafford has averaged 20.64 fantasy points so far, which is good for 6th overall, and is second overall in points scored. With Detroit being such a pass happy team and Dallas having a really good offense as well, this has the looks of a offensive shootout, which is music to a fantasy football owner's ears.
1) Robert Griffin vs. Denver Broncos
In what looks like it could be a shootout with Denver, RGIII could have a good week, Denver allowing the 7th most fantasy points to QB's so far. Also, he showed great signs against the Bears and Cowboys the past two weeks passing for a combined 544 yards and rushing for another 161 yards, and it looks as if the pre-injury RGIII might be back. Look for RGIII to continue to grow upon what he has done in recent weeks.
2) Michael Vick vs. New York Giants
Matched up against 2nd worst defense in terms allowed fantasy points, Michael Vick is looking to have a good week. In a Eagles offense that is so wide open and with so many options, Vick could have a big week going up against this bad passing defense, as well as being able to get some running yard as well, assuming his aggravated hamstring cooperates with him. If Vick is systems go for week 8, look for him to have a good week.
3) Colin Kaepernick vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Playing against the lowly Jaguars this week, the 49ers look to have a very favorable matchup this week. Kaepernick had his best week of the season last week since week 1 of the season, scoring 20.76 points, against a stout Tennessee Titans defense. He finally looked like his old self, running the read option, gaining 68 yards on the ground with a TD, and passing for another 199. With him facing a terrible Jaguars team, look for him to have a passing TD this week, and to continue to build upon the success he had running the read option last week.
Sleeper: Ryan Tannehill vs. New England Patriots
With the Patriots defense now losing two key pieces of their defense, Vince Wilfork and Jerrod Mayo, and Aqib Talib being slowed with a strained hip flexor, Tannehill could have a big week against this ailing defense. Also with the Dolphins adding LT Bryant McKinnie this week, the added protection could lead to some extra time for Tannehill in the pocket to find WR Mike Wallace down the field. Even if Talib can play this week, he will not be a full strength, and might be susceptible to a deep pass this week.
1) Tom Brady vs. Miami Dolphins
With the Miami Dolphins getting to full strength in their secondary, with starting CB Dmitri Patterson coming back to pair with already impressive Brent Grimes, and Nolan Carroll and Jamar Taylor playing better, look for the Dolphins to pose a challenge to Brady. Also, with Brady not having Amendolla and still getting used to many of his new weapons, it could be tough sledding for Brady this week. Brady also has only scored 20 or more points once this season and has only been averaging 13.52 points a week.
2) Andy Dalton vs. New York Jets
The New York Jets have a very underrated defense this year, and with CB Antonio Cromartie leading the secondary and the front seven getting to the QB, it had been tough for opposing QB's so far. Dalton can be a little streaky sometimes and not as consistent you might want, so be weary of starting him this week against a tough defense
3) Terrelle Pryor vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
With really no consistent weapons around him and going up against a really tough defense in Pittsburgh, who have given up the 2nd fewest points to fantasy QB's this season, it looks as if Pryor is not in for a very good week. Also, with a shaky run game behind him, Pryor might be forced to shoulder the load offensively for the Raiders.
Owners Be Ware:
Mike Glennon vs. Carolina Panthers
Even though the rookie QB has thrown for at least 250 yards and 2 TD's the past two weeks, look for Glennon's streak to end this week against a Panther's defense that has allowed the fewest fantasy points to QB's so far this season. Also going against Glennon is the fact that is a short week because of the Thursday night game and starting RB Doug Martin is injured with a torn labrum in his shoulder, this is not a good combo for this rookie.
That is it for this week, tweet me @sethAfisherFF if you have any questions.
