In one of the first surprising cuts of training camp, the 49ers have released Jeremy Zuttah.

It’s hard to believe, considering the team traded for the 2016 Pro Bowler during the offseason. It was meant to bolster the 49ers’ offensive line. Not to mention, assist with the team’s injury problems at both the center and guard positions.

What does Zuttah being cut mean for the 49ers?

It appears that Daniel Kilgore will remain the team’s starting center.

The question is more for the guard positions and the competitions for them.

At left guard, there’s Joshua Garnett and Zane Beadles. Garnett is listed as the team’s starter at left guard. However, he’s out with a knee injury that will sideline him for some time. For now, Beadles will take over until Garnett returns.

At right guard, Brandon Fusco is penciled in as the starter. He seems like the favorite ahead of Garry Gilliam.

What will happen to Zuttah?

The Pro Bowl interior offensive lineman will find some team that can use his talents.

At press time, Shanahan told reporters,

That was a tough decision. He’s done a lot of good things in league. We wanted to give him chance to go somewhere else.
