The Saints drafted Sheldon Rankins with the 12th overall selection of the 2016 draft in hopes that he would be the disruptive interior presence that the defense had been missing for years. Rankins had 4 sacks in that rookie season during just 9 games of action, having been slowed by a leg injury suffered in the preseason.
