The first week of fantasy football is over, and in that first week there were some ups and downs. Some fantasy guys came through, some you would have never imagined to like Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith. Then there were the guys you’ve counted on in the past who let you down like Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton.
One guy who surprised everyone, was Denver Broncos’ quarterback Trevor Siemian. Siemian played as if he wanted to be there. Siemian completed 17 of 28 passes for 219 yards and two passing touchdowns. To top it off, Siemian rushed for 19 yards and had one rushing touchdown. Siemian’s rushing touchdown came on a rollout as well as his first passing touchdown.
Needless to say, the Broncos are pleased with Siemian. The Broncos hesitation with Siemian was there because of his play during the preseason. Broncos’ Offensive coordinator Mike McCoy had some conservative play calling in the first half. Then later on McCoy allowed Siemian to take chances down the field, and it opened up the Denver offense more and more.
Coach Vance Joseph stated, “It’s Siemian’s team.”
Siemian informed the ESPN crew he wanted to play point guard for his offense, and he did just that last night.
Now the big question, was this a week one fluke or is Siemian going to be the caliber of quarterback the Broncos are hoping for? As of right now, Siemian is ranked fourth among quarterbacks, because of his fantasy points. (NFL Standard scoring) With that being said, I wouldn’t rush out and drop one of my traditional top ten quarterbacks for Siemian. Siemian is playing the Dallas Cowboys in week two at home, but I would wait and see how he preforms against the Cowboys. After all, this was only week one, and as we all know anything can happen on any given Sunday.
