The Arizona Cardinals lost to the Detroit Lions in their season opener on Sunday. However that wasn’t the only bad news for the Cardinals. They also lost starting running back David Johnson for two to three months. The Cardinals are hoping to get D. Johnson back by Christmas. Like most people who drafted D. Johnson for their fantasy team, including myself, they are looking for a quality replacement.
With every door that closes, another one opens, and the door is opening for running back Kerwyn Williams. Cardinals’ Head Coach Bruce Arians stated Williams will start against the Indianapolis Colts in Week Two. Behind Williams will be Andre Ellington and Chris Johnson who just re-signed with Arizona.
More than likely, you will see Williams and Ellington as the dynamic duo, with Chris Johnson slowly working his way back into the fold. Williams will get first crack at the early downs and is worth adding him in most leagues. Ellington will more than likely be used in the rush/passing game.
In Sunday’s lost, Williams rushed five times for only 10 yards and one touchdown. While Ellington had two receptions for 35 yards.
This isn’t what fantasy owners were expecting when drafting D. Johnson as a top-two pick in their drafts this summer, but always remember that the drafts don’t win you the championship, it only gives you a good foundation. To win in fantasy football you have to make sure that you have a good flow to you lineup, and more than anything hope to have a little bit of luck on your side.
